Learn to Cook
Starting out, it is best to do simple dishes. Breakfast is the best way to start the day, and it is also the best way to begin learning to cook. Eggs, bacon, biscuits, pancakes, sausage, and hashbrowns are all quite delicious and, for the most part, simple. There are several ways to cook everything, but you want to do what tastes the best. A key note to always remember is to start with the temperature low while you're learning, so maybe you won't burn quite as many potentially good meals.
Making an egg is more than just cracking it and getting it hot. The most common ways to make eggs are scrambled and fried. When cooking anything, your first concern needs to be taste. Though a fried or scrambled egg seems simple, but very minor variables can ruin the flavor. An example of a bad scrambled egg would be one that was cooked a single minute too long. Eggs cook quickly, so overcooking, even the slightest bit, will dry them out. (Many people use a little bit of milk to keep scrambled eggs fluffy and moist.) A common mistake with frying an egg is busting the yolk. The key to a good fried egg is flipping the egg quickly and gently. Working with eggs will make you more comfortable in the kitchen.
Bacon and sausage are very simple to cook. Just remember to start with LOW temperature. You don't want to be cooking for someone a mess up the easiest part of the meal. It is best to put bacon in the oven and sausage in a skillet. Just don't get in a rush, and this should be very easy.
Biscuits and pancakes are both fairly easy to make but require close attention. Anything in the oven is easy to forget, so with the biscuits, be sure to set a timer. A biscuit that has been burned is garbage. Pancakes cook quickly, but a common mistake people tend to make when cooking pancakes is undercooking. The fear of burning pancakes makes cooks take them off the griddle too soon. After the flip, you are waiting for the edges to turn golden-brown, not tan.
Finally, hashbrowns are just griddle or skillet fried, grated potatoes. It is done when it is golden-brown.
So, it just comes down to watching your food cook, not letting it cook at too high of a temperature, and getting comfortable. This is just the beginning. Everything will get easier, and you will venture beyond breakfast food.
